In glorious weather for February the Yr 12 class walked Leg 2 of The London Loop on Wednesday 26th, from Bexley to Petts Wood. All students had the opportunity to take the lead for a set leg of the route, before returning tired at the end of the day.

INDEPENDENT LEARNING WEEK
Both year 12 and 13 Public Service students will carry out
independent learning over the period Monday 10-Friday 14 February 2014.
Y ear 12. Your priorities are as follows:
Mr Wilson
1. Complete P1 (A description of 4 different expeditions).
Print work and leave in my pigeon hole in the staff room.
2. Complete P2 (Planning a one day expedition with tutor
support). All the details are shown on this blog (post 04 Feb 14) and all the
materials you need are on the G Drive. ALL of this work, both the typed plan
AND the PP presentation MUST be ready by Monday 24 February. You will give the
presentation briefings to the rest of the class on Monday 24 February, period 6
and we go out on Leg 2 of the London Loop on Wednesday 26th!
3. Complete unfinished work from Unit 2 (Leadership &
Teamwork). You can see the Tracking Sheet on the G Drive in the Unit 2 file.
Year 13. Your priorities are as follows:
1. Unit 20 (Communications and Technology). Complete P1, P4,
M1 and M2
2. Check the Tracking Sheets for Units 28, 36 and 10 for any
gaps and then complete the missing work. Print off your work and leave in my
pigeon hole in the staff room.

PLANNING A ONE DAY EXPEDITION
Your task is to carry out and complete the planning for our expedition along Leg 2 of The London Loop, on Wednesday 26th February 2014. You will be required to work in pairs to carry out a series of research tasks and problem solving exercises and then present your plan to the rest of the class.
LO: To plan a one-day expedition, with tutor support (P2)
Starter Exercise:
Watch the video and note down the key points

Activities/Timings:
1. Watch the video and then in pairs brainstorm the key planning requirements for an outdoor expedition (5-10 mins)
2. Open the Expedition Planning Folder in the Unit 9 File on the G Drive (5 mins)
3. Look at the materials, including the PP on Planning an Expedition and give a Situation Brief to the rest of the class (10 mins)
4. Work through the Expedition Planning Folder contents together(you will need to allocate specific tasks to individuals as there is too much for one person to do) (50 mins)
5. Once you have completed the planning tasks you will need to prepare a group PP presentation on your plan, ready to give to the rest of the class (25 mins)
Follow up work:
6. Present to the class (30 mins)
7. Class feedback/plenary (10 mins)
8. Individually you will need to carry out a review of the planning exercise
