Year 11 Level 2 Assignment for Unit 5

The Assignment for Unit 5 starts today (30 Sep 11), with Task 1. This task follows the classwork very closely and you should refer to your class notes and homework to help you.

You will need to view the Task 1 briefing sheet below. You will also need to update your Fitness Diary with the results from the last PFA.

The Unit 5 Assignment starts today, with Task 1. Before starting the task, make a note of the current PFA scores for your Fitness Diary.

12 A Public Services Work for Wed 28 Sep 11 Periods 4/5

PP presentations are postponed until Thursday 29 Sep and will take place during periods 3, 4 and 5.

Today, the priority for action is:

1. Complete Assignment  Task 1 (P1,P2, M1, D1).
2. Practice PP presentations ready for Thursday. Remember, they MUST last between 5 and 10 minutes, no less and no longer!
3. Research P5 "Describe the different types of team that operate within a selected public service" For example, within the Police there are distinct teams, eg CID, Traffic, TSG, Anti-Terrorist, etc.
Research on the internet and/or text books and produce a brief (max 2 sides A4) report.

Year 12 Level 3 Public Services Presentations

Level 3 students are reminded that they are due to give their PP presentations on Wednesday 28 Sep 11, during periods 4 & 5 (1130-1310). Students should be fully prepared, with PP presentations on USB stick.

The topics are:

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary
Joining the Army as an Officer
Becoming a pilot in the Royal Air Force
The British Army in Germany
HM Coastguard
The training needed to become a Firefighter
The Royal Marines
HM Prison Service
Career opportunities in the Royal Navy
The application and selection process for joining the Police
The Iraq War
HM Revenue & Customs
The history of the Royal Air Force
The Cadets
The UK Border Agency
Career opportunities in the Ambulance Service

Each presentation must last between 5 and 10 minutes and will be PEER ASSESSED.

Year 11 Level 2 Assignment: Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services

Year 11 Public Service learners will start the Unit 5 Assignment on Friday 01 Oct 11.

The focus will be:

P1: Define key terms associated with a healthy lifestyle
P2: Describe the effects of exercise on the body systems associated with health
P3: Outline the benefits of exercise

Learners should make sure that they have their HW from three weeks ago, which will be of direct benefit when completing these objectives.

FITNESS LOGS and FOOD & LIFESTYLE DIARIES from 23 Sep 11 should also be completed.

The next practical physical session will be on Friday 07 Oct 11

Year 13 Level 3 NAVEX to Bromley


A navigation exercise (NAVEX) has been organised for Level 3 Year 13 students on THURSDAY 13th OCTOBER 2011, taking advantage of the Green Chain Walk and Capital Ring.

A letter will be issued shortly. The class will be responsible for route planning and route selection, the production of a route card, brieifngs and for navigation on the day. Mr Wilson will organise train transport from Bromley North to Falconwood.
