UNIT 35 Navigation Exercise 24th October 2012

12A set off on a mild, misty and humid morning on Wednesday 24th October to complete their P5 for the unit (undertake a planned route using map and routecard). A horse shoe route of just under 12 Km was carried out in the Dartford Heath/Joyden Woods area of North West Kent. All participants returned, albiet slightly muddier than they were when they set off! Students had planned the route, produced a route card, risk assessment and considered all the administration of the visit in lessons earlier in the week.

The lunch rest stop at Joyden Woods.

World Challenge 2012

On Friday 19th November 2012 Mr Wilson, Mr Toomey and Ms Burke went to the Excel Centre with the current cohort of Yr 12 and 13  Public Services students from Crown Woods College. Most partipants would agree that it was a thouroughly worth while visit, if only to see to looks on the faces as we crossed the Thames on the Emirates Cablecar.

(Craig looks just a little worried about how high he is!)

World Rescue Challenge London 2012

We have managed to get 40 tickets for the World Rescue Chalenge 2012, which takes place at the ExCel Centre next week. The visit will take place on Friday 19th October 2012.

Letters for the visit are to be found on the G Drive in the Public Services folder (Visit 19 Oct 12).

Because of the short notice for this event we are unable to obtain a TfL Travel Permit. Students will be asked to take and use their Oyster cards for bus travel on the day and to pay for the cable car to and from Woolwich to the ExCel Centre.

WED 03 OCT 12 YEAR 12 PUBLIC SERVICES

There will be no Yr 12 Level 3 Public Services (Land Navigation) lesson today. It is however imperative that all P1/P2 work and activities from Unit 35 are completed today, printed off and left for assessment on the desk in AR105.

Next Wednesday the visit to the Imperial War Museum has been confirmed. Arrangements will be discussed next Monday/Tuesday. In the meantime carry out some preparatory research for your folder about the Aschroft Gallery which will be visited to look at some of the collection of Victoria and George Crosses. Design and print off a suitable worksheet where you can record some of the exploits that led to the award of the medals, with partucular focus on leadership and the PS skills and qualities discussed.
